CFS will celebrate 25th Anniversary

Catholic Family Service, Inc. (CFS) will celebrate its 25th anniversary at a special event to mark this milestone in the organization’s history.  This Catholic Charities agency serves people in need in Lubbock and 29 other counties of the South Plains of Texas, assisting approximately 27,000 people each year through its various programs.  Current and former Board and committee members, staff, volunteers and supporters of CFS will gather on Friday, October 23, 2009, at Christ the King Cathedral, and will prayerfully reflect on the growth of CFS from its early days.  Participants will be challenged to respond with even greater charity and resourcefulness to current and future needs throughout the South Plains area.  Catholic Family Service provides help and hope to individuals and families in need regardless of race/ethnicity, religion or gender.  The primary programs of CFS include:  Emergency Assistance (help with food, medications, rent, utilities, dental and eye care, and transportation), the Resale Center (assisting with clothing, furniture and household items), Legalization services, At Risk Youth Program, Self Sufficiency Program, Elderly Outreach, and Adult and Family Counseling.

The Board and Staff of CFS are most grateful to the many people who support the agency’s mission of service to “the least among us.”  This occasion of twenty five years of service is an opportunity to celebrate all that has been accomplished, and to look forward with hope to many years of bringing compassionate help to those most in need on the South Plains.

COMMUNITY REWARDS

CFS has an opportunity to receive a $5,000 donation from City Bank to help with our Emergency Assistance Program, and you, your family and your friends can help this happen.  City Bank will be offering ten $5,000 donations to those charity organizations that receive the most votes for the "Community Rewards" Program.  Click the link, register once as a voter, and then you can vote as often as you wish from Sunday, November 8 through Friday, December 18.  You can also go straight to City Bank's website to vote: www.citybankonline.com. The only restrictions is that participants must be 18 and older.  Please help us compete for theses funds which would assist so many needy families.  Anyone who has computer access can help us in this project, so the more people voting, the better chance we have.  And note, the big difference from last year is that you can vote over and over again with no restrictions.

Thanks for you help!

follow the link above vote for CFS at www.citybankonline.com

Hello friends and Core Team members,
I wanted to share some pictures with all of you. They were taken on June 18
and 19, 2009. I had been planning the East Side Clean up Campaign for
months. When planning this event I never imagined we would have so many
volunteers. Over 50 volunteers came to help. They included groups from the
Dalby Facility, Garza County, City of Post, and White River lake Retreat,
Probation Dept. and The Victims Assistance program. We also had many
residents from the east side neighborhood come to help, Wow!! Pleasant Home
Baptist church located in the east side (Rev.Kelly's church) served as the
meeting place. Volunteers served up a hotdogs and drinks provided by the
Dalby Facility.

I would also so like to share the names of people and businesses that
helped the Post East Side Clean-up Campaign be such a great success. Judge
Lee Norman, Paul and Carla Perez, Pat Cruse, Sonic Drive -in, Melvin and
Bessie Lee, Marvin Wynn and Jed, Bea Bustos, Rev. Arthur Kelly, Warden Kerry
Dickson, Raquel and Randy Britton, Dawn Bilberry, Susan Little, Ronnie
Riggs, RC Curtis, Associate Wardens Hugh Bryan and Larry Bond, Phil Tyler,
Onesimo Garza, Joel Poe, Ted Brannon, Billy Winkle, Sue Crawford, Arlene
Guerrero and Pauline Flores. And I could go on and on.

Just imagine what mountains can be moved if we all work together.

Keep hope in your heart,

Reyes Pequeño - Rural Community Organizer

THANK YOU!!  to all sponsors, donors, committee members, and individuals that helped make this year's Night to Remember another success!!!

June 7, 2009 - "Night to Remember XVIII"

 A NIGHT TO REMEMBER XVIII

Catholic Family Service is holding its major fundraiser for the year, "A NIGHT TO REMEMBER XVIII," on Sunday, June 7th, 2009, at the Catholic Renewal Center at 4th and Toledo in Lubbock.  The evening begins with a social hour and silent auction, featuring a wide variety of unique and interesting items on which to bid.  During this time as well, an exquisite array of foods, desserts, and beverages will be served.  A live auction will begin shortly thereafter.

Tickets for "A NIGHT TO REMEMBER XVII"  are being sold for $100 each.  A ticket entitles the holder and one guest to attend the event, and each ticket holder will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize valued at $10,000.  Attendance at the event is not required to win the drawing.

This evening affair is the only annual fundraising event for Catholic Family Service.  The proceeds of the evening will help CFS continue in its mission of service to those in need, and will help support the many programs CFS offers to help empower people to improve their lives.

Tickets may be reserved and purchased by calling Cynthia Quintanilla or Jeff Malpiede at the Catholic Family Service office, 765-8475.  Donations for the silent and live auctions are also needed.
