DID YOU KNOW...

  • Youth are more inclined to reach out and seek shelter in their neighborhoods during a time of crisis than to seek out a shelter itself.

  • The National Safe Place organization currently has over 16,000 "Safe Place Sites" nationwide that have helped over 104,000 youth in 2007.

  • Catholic Family Service organizes Safe Place activities in Lubbock and offers free assistance to any youth in trouble.

Safe Place is a national program that strives to help any child in crisis.  CFS sponsors Project Safe Place in the city of Lubbock to work closely with the At-Risk Youth Program and its resources.  The goal of Safe Place is to reach out t Lubbock's youth community and provide a safe and effective means for a child to receive help.

Partnering with local businesses is essential to sustain a viable Safe Place.  Over 60 businesses in Lubbock are partnered with CFS and are "Safe Place Sites", such as Fire Stations, Libraries, The Resale Center, Citibus, Boys and Girls Clubs, Cold Stone Creamery, Hollywood Video, Domino's Pizza, and others.

The services of Safe Place are completely free.  During a time of family problems, drug or alcohol abuse, runaway events, school issues, etc., a child can go into any place of business that displays the yellow and black Safe Place sign to ask for help.  Once at the Safe Place, the employees will call Catholic Family Service and an At-Risk Youth counselor will promptly arrive to speak with the child and determine what kind of assistance will be needed.
