EXTREME WEATHER

The main office of Catholic Charities and the Resale Center will follow LISD school schedule with regards to opening later, closing early, or staying closed during extreme weather.  CC offices in other counties will follow local school district schedules.  Please check your local news for information on LISD and local school district  weather schedules.  CC updates can be found here and at www.facebook.com/resalecenter

SERVICES TO AT-RISK YOUTH (STAR)

YOUTH CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION

RUNAWAY AND HOMELESS YOUTH (RHY)

SAFE PLACE

 

Project Safe Place is specifically designed for runaway youth encountering any number of crises, including, but not limited to, family conflict, drug or alcohol abuse, school conflict, homelessness, and immediate safety.

 

HOUR OF OPERATION:

  • Everyday

  • 24 hour assistance

  • OFFICE STAFF HOURS: Mon. - Fri.

  • OFFICE STAFF HOURS: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • 24-hour Runaway Hotline: 1-806-778-7673

SERVICES PROVIDED:

  • Provides numerous safe outlets for runaway youth in the community aside from that at the Catholic Family Service main office.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Youth 17 years of age and younger. 

INTAKE PROCEDURES:

  • Contact a "Safe Place" (i.e. a business, fire station, library or bus participating in Project Safe Place) designated by the yellow and black safe place sign.

  • The Safe Place will then contact Catholic Family Service for assistance.

COUNTIES SERVED:

  • Lubbock and Terry County.  We currently have over 125 Safe Place sites in Lubbock, Shallowater and Brownfield.

DID YOU KNOW...

  • Youth are more inclined to reach out and seek shelter in their neighborhoods during a time of crisis than to seek out a shelter itself.

  • The National Safe Place organization currently has over 16,000 "Safe Place Sites" nationwide that have helped over 104,000 youth in 2007.

  • Catholic Family Service organizes Safe Place activities in Lubbock and offers free assistance to any youth in trouble.

Safe Place is a national program that strives to help any child in crisis.  CFS sponsors Project Safe Place in the city of Lubbock to work closely with the At-Risk Youth Program and its resources.  The goal of Safe Place is to reach out t Lubbock's youth community and provide a safe and effective means for a child to receive help.

 

Partnering with local businesses is essential to sustain a viable Safe Place.  Over 60 businesses in Lubbock are partnered with CFS and are "Safe Place Sites", such as Fire Stations, Libraries, The Resale Center, Citibus, Boys and Girls Clubs, Cold Stone Creamery, Hollywood Video, Domino's Pizza, and others.

 

The services of Safe Place are completely free.  During a time of family problems, drug or alcohol abuse, runaway events, school issues, etc., a child can go into any place of business that displays the yellow and black Safe Place sign to ask for help.  Once at the Safe Place, the employees will call Catholic Family Service and an At-Risk Youth counselor will promptly arrive to speak with the child and determine what kind of assistance will be needed.
